Australian GST calculator

Add 10% GST to a price, or work out the GST already sitting inside a total. Free, instant, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Adding GST

Multiply the GST-exclusive price by 1.1. The GST itself is the price times 0.1.

Removing GST

Divide the inclusive total by 11 for the GST, or by 1.1 for the price before GST. Taking 10% off an inclusive price gives the wrong answer.

Working with an invoice where some lines are GST-free? Calculate per line rather than on the total — the full explanation is in how to calculate GST in Australia, and what has to be on a tax invoice covers how to show it.

Common questions

How do I add 10% GST to a price?

Multiply by 1.1. A $1,000 job is $1,100 including GST, and the GST component is $100.

How do I find the GST in a total that already includes it?

Divide the total by 11. On $1,100 the GST is $100. Divide by 1.1 instead to get the $1,000 GST-exclusive price.

Is GST always 10% in Australia?

The rate is 10% and has been since GST was introduced in 2000. Some goods and services are GST-free rather than taxed at a lower rate, so the calculation is either 10% or nothing.

Does this calculator send my figures anywhere?

No. It runs entirely in your browser — there is no account, no tracking of the numbers you type, and it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.

Stop calculating GST by hand.

JASC applies GST per line item and keeps every amount in whole cents, so quotes, invoices and BAS figures agree with each other.
